(Pic-home decorated hat for hat competition)

I just finished installing Google’s Picasa graphics manager program. I’m using Picasa’s “Blog This” feature to post this picture and message.

The Linux version of this software was extremely simple to download and install!

Christmas Presents

Each year we make a lot of Christmas presents, this year won’t be any different. The kids used to cook gingerbread and caramel nut popcorn and these were always popular with the relatives however most of our family are diabetic now (no it wasn’t the popcorn) so we need to stay away from these treats. I’ll be making Christmas cards with shrinkies on like in the previous craft pictures. These are some other cards I’ve made

I’m not sure yet what other presents I’ll be making, there’s not much point in making Christmas decorations to give on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Better Homes And Gardens have some good craft patterns for download on their website.

As well as making presents I might give some plants too. My Mum and Dad and my brother like gardening and my sister might like to grow something too.

Making Christmas presents is part of our school work too. Jess loves being creative and making all sorts of things and Doug’s craft work is lovely he does bobbin lace making, shrinkies, cross stitch and crochet.

Craft

Last weekend I went to a Ladies Craft Camp from Friday night through to Sunday afternoon. All meals are cooked for you and craft sessions are run on all days. Campers can register to learn a craft in a small group with an instructor or you can ‘do your own thing’. I’ve been to 6 camps now. I’ve mostly been in the ‘do your own thing’ group. You definitely don’t get hungry any time during the camp!!! There is breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon munchies from the canteen, tea and supper.

I made shrinkies, which I learnt to do at the last camp I went to. I’ve used them to make cards, necklaces, earrings, bracelets, decorate cloth bags, sun catchers, Christmas decorations, a wall hanging and more. I’ve made some for others to use in their scrapbooking and also on a quilt. This is what they look like.

The kids love making these too.

Researching MySpace

Jessica wanted to join MySpace.com like most of her other friends so I joined too and we both created profiles. I’m learning how it works, mostly from Jessica, doing it myself and reading the FAQs and help.

My thoughts so far have been:

– It’s a big time waster
– I can see what Jessica likes about it 🙂 she’s a very social person
– I like it that Jess’ profile can stay private and she can just interact with her friends – so far she’s only added the people she knows and a few bands/singers. At the moment she’s happy with these restrictions.
– It certainly has the potential to be misused by young people and adults
– I like the different safety tips for kids and parents
– Parts of the site don’t work in Ubuntu and Firefox

So far it’s been a positive experience and I pray it continues to be.
