Tuesday At LCA2008

Tuesday I spent the whole day at the LinuxChix miniconf enjoying the talks but also trying not to get too nervous before mine and Robyn’s talk. Robyn arranged the miniconf with Mary Gardiner. It all went smoothly with all speakers turning up for their sessions and was greatly enjoyed by all!!!! They did a great job!

Pia Waugh’s talk was first up titled Heroes. Pia challenged us to speak to all the technical and non technical women we could about FOSS also to mentor someone and speak or demo at some schools. She inspired us with info on local and international women in FOSS. It was great to hear what others are doing and I was absolutely stunned to see my name up there!! It’s funny I wasn’t surprised to see Robyn’s name included because she’s been doing this a lot longer than me and she’s much more technical than I am but I was surprised to see mine.

Robyn’s and my talk went extremely well. There were lots of questions and interaction from the audience! Many people talked to us after the talk and throughout the rest of the week. I hope some people were inspired to start their own community training or other type of group to spread FOSS and support women in IT.
