Saturday afternoon we caught the Indian Pacific train at Sydney Central station. It started off on its usual track heading for Broken Hill. I’m not sure where we’d got to when there was an announcement. Parts of South Australia had a huge amount of rain and the train tracks at Yunta were washed away. Yunta is the next town after Broken Hill after crossing the border into South Australia. At Parkes we detoured to Melbourne, Victoria. Near Broad Meadows in Melbourne we stopped and the locomotive was shifted from one end of the train to the other and set off again for Adelaide on the Overland train’s track. It was a lovely scenic trip through country Victoria and South Australia to Adelaide. Overall we were only five hours late, apparently it could’ve been a lot worse. Because we were late getting in to Adelaide Sunday night I stayed at Mum’s that night so I actually didn’t get home from conference until Monday. 🙂 That’s almost three days of travelling just to get from Sydney to Adelaide! LOL 🙂
Only 5 hours, and plus, more scenic!
We also got to see the Blue Mountains, Grampians and travel down through the Mt Lofty Ranges. I haven’t been through the Mt Lofty Ranges to Adelaide by train since I was in primary school. 🙂
